The Gowns (“Robbes”)

NOTE 1: To help identify individual items in the inventory, I have numbered each entry and preceded this number with a letter to indicate the section of the inventory. Below, you will see items in the “robbes” section labelled: Rx, where “x” is the item number. These labels do not appear in the actual inventory. The actual inventory text appears in blue.

NOTE 2: I am adding translated items incrementally, as I get them finished. I’m starting from the first page of the inventory (the “robbes” section) and proceeding sequentially. So check in periodically to see what’s done!

[English] Firstly,

R1: “Une Robbe de drapt dor frizé frizeure traict et lanvers [lenvers] dargent”

[Modern French] Une robe de drap d’or frisé, [le] fisure trait, et l’envers d’argent

[English] A gown of cloth of gold with gold loops, the loops of drawn gold wire, and the reverse (ground?) of silver

R2: “Une autre Robbe de toille dor frizee frizeure traict le paremens fourré de luzernes [loucerve] et le denturant [denterin] double de taffectas blanc”

[Modern French] Une autre robbe de toile d’or frisé, [le] frisure trait, [avec] les parements fourrés de loup-cerviers et l’intérieur doublé de taffetas blanc

[English] Another gown of telette with gold loops [Italian: telette arriciato], with the parements furred with lynx, and the interior [of the gown] lined in white taffeta

R3: “Une autre robbe de drapt dargent frize les paremens fourre dermynes quy fure obste [oste] dune robbe de damas blanc que la Royne fit deffourrer a manny [manie] po[ur] mectre [metre] en reste dicte robbe la bas double de taffectas blanc”

[Modern French] Une autre robe de drap d’argent frisé, [avec] les parements fourrés d’ermines qui fut ôté d’une robe de damas blanc que la Reine fit deffourrer à la maison pour mettre/moissoner [le] reste de ladicte robe; et le bas doublé de taffetas blanc

[English] Another gown of cloth of gold with gold loops (the loops made of gold thread), with parements furred with ermine removed from a gown of white damask, from which the Queen had the fur taken out by the household so that the rest of the aforementioned gown could be reused;  the lower section [of the cloth-of-gold gown was] lined in white taffeta.

R4: “Une autre Robbe de velloux noir les paremens double de toille dor fizeure dargent et le pa bas double de taffectas blanc”

[Modern French] Une autre robe de velours noir, [avec] les parements doublés de toile d’or, [le] frisure d’argent, et le bas doublé de taffetas blanc

[English] Another gown of black velvet, with the parements lined with gold telette having silver loops (made with silver thread), and the lower portion [of the gown] lined in white taffeta

R5: “Une autre Robbe de velloux noir les paremens double de toille dargent frizee et le bas de taffectas blanc”

[Modern French] Une autre robe de velours noir, [avec] les parements doublés de toile d’argent frisé, et le bas [doublé] de taffetas blanc

[English] Another gown of black velvet, with the parements lined with silver telette with silver loops (made with silver thread), and the lower portion [of the gown] lined in white taffeta
